In Final Fantasy XI, what does the /macro command do?

Hi! I'm new here. I've tried several different things, such as /macro <t> or /macro ctrl3 and stuff like that. Can someone just tell me a basic command using this and how it should be used?

It depends on what you wanna do.
For Job Abilities its (Replace the umbrella term with the actual abilitiy name):
/ja "Job Ability" <t>
You can change the <t> to a number of things. The list will be on a site below.
For Magic its:
/ma "Spell" <t>
Weapon Skills:
/ws "Skill" <t>
Changing gear:
/equip "Gear" slot
Items:
/item "Item" <t>

Ctrl and Alt are used to activate these macros on your keyboard. There are also a number of emotes like /wave and /dance but you can piece those together yourself. If I'm forgetting something, let me know. Good luck. What server are you on?
